Ride to Galeana
August 30 2008
Heading out on a Friday morning with Jeff leading the way, we crossed our motorcycles into Reynosa and started our new adventure of riding motorcycles in Mexico. Jeff couldn’t go with us so he went on to work and we headed out of Reynosa towards Galeana.
Jimmy in his Ford Focus pulling a trailer with his bike on the back became our new leader of the pack. We made a couple of quick stops along the way toward Linares. Everything is going smoothly. We had our Pesos so we could pull in the Pemex gas stations and say with confidence – “Fill er up.” How do you say that in Spanish anyway?
In Linares we had a great meal provided by Jimmy’s family, dropped off his car and trailer and now it was all bikes heading to the mountains and Galeana.
Rain???? Yes, we hit rain before the curvy mountain roads, so we had to go slow. Greg finally was able to find some children that would take his handfuls of candy, so he was pleased. And we just tried to enjoy the view.
In Galeana we found our motel, walked around town looking like tourist and had a great meal.
On Saturday Tim and I headed back and the rest of the crew had another touring day before they came home on Sunday. The mountain roads were still wet so we again took it easy and ventured a different way home. On the way down the mountain we had to dodge the burros in the road. Gives a new name to country riding.
Rain Again!!!!! We got soaked. It is hard to get your pesos out for the toll booth when your hands are all wet. Tim and I had a good ride back on Saturday and the rest of the group had an uneventful ride home on Sunday.
I still have some Pesos so when do we do this again?
