Are we supposed to work?

Not long ago I was at some store and one of the workers asked me how I was. I gave the normal answer - I am fine, how about you? His response struck me a little funny. "Well, I have to be at work, so not so great."

I then had a thought or more of a question. What should be our view of work? Some people love their job, and others hate their job. And the question that always comes up when someone wins the lottery is "Will you quit your job?" I think we think that working is part of the curse. But it isn't. Adam was told to work in the garden before the ground was cursed. Granted, he didn't have any weeds.

I think work is part of God's intention for us. I don't think we should worship our work. I don't think our work should be our life. Our work may be a means to an end - provision, but it doesn't have to be something we dread.

So, keep up the good work.

Even when you love your job, you can get weary at times and not especially love it. I believe God has directed me especially in those times to simply be in the moment. Concentrate only on what needs to be done at that time and not worry or consider what else needs to be done in the day. This has often been very helpful.
